Letter #4 Home

Well I hate this because I have no time to write, but what im going to do is send you a hand written letter every other week, and send you pictures on the other weeks. So I don't have time so I will have to be brief.
VINCIN jr. Sr. : A Mexican guy and his son that I knocked into. He is Catholic but is interested in the church and wants to be baptized but it will be a lot of work. The father and son have stuck together through a lot of rough stuff, Drugs, girls, deaths, and so much more, but the son stuck by the dad and not the dad is having to do the same with his son.
Ben: well we knocked into him as well and he said yes to every thing we had to say and wants to be baptized really bad..... we then gave him a church tour and it went great, but when we were at the baptismal fount he said that he is disqualified to be baptized and we asked why and he did not really say so we went through the interview questions and talked about the atonement and then he said "well I think im good" ....."well there is one thing"......"I have slept with three people"......"they all were men"  so that's what we are having to deal with. He is pretty cool, hahah he took a selfie with us in priesthood meeting hahah.
Raina: we knocked into her and shared the restoration and she was on date to be baptized, but she is very shy. He husband is a less active but really wants this church for his family so they are really promising.
Tosha: she wants me to baptize her this past Sunday but the guy who was going to give her a special interview would not answer his phone so I will have to wait till this week. She has a few problems....hahah ummm I had to go over and tell her and this guy (Robert) that they could not sleep in the same room....Robert is a man who has slicked back hair, has tattoos all over and on his face and tear drops and has been to prison and all that good stuff, and he was not to happy about this. We shared with him alma 7:11 and long story short he was ok with it. ( I have no time to write and I still have to write 3 people uggg)
So my word kinda sucks... we get feed but no one really cares about missionary work but that is going to change and just to put it in prospective we had steak conference last week and every one who was there equaled about 3/4 of the citrus hills ward... maybe less. But it is going good and I love it here. People are very mean and through stuff at us and call the cops and set dogs on us and cuss us out and I love every minute of it because I know that I am a valuable representative of Christ and I am a huge target for satin, and all those things that are supposed to make me get down on myself or question God, just let me know that I am important in this work, and something is big to come that satin is trying to prevent. Just remember that when something bad happens or you feel satins influence in your life. I love all of you and miss you.

Newsletter for the Tacoma Mission

August 2015
Sister Blatter and I find that it’s such a joy to be serving the Lord in the Washington, Tacoma mission.  We’ve been busy as we’ve gathered together as missionaries for different events. We had a very successful Fourth of July picnic on July 6th in Bremerton with the north conference for an afternoon of food and games.  We didn’t get too wet with the water balloon toss.  We had 3 “Why I Believe” firesides in July with our first one in Olympia on the 12th and concluding with one in Lakewood on the 26th.  We also held a Spanish fireside in Lacey on the 19th where Sis. Blatter bravely bore her testimony in Spanish.  All of them were filled with the spirit of new members bearing strong testimonies of how they were searching for something more in their lives and listening to the wonderful music of our missionaries was a treat as usual.
Our zone conferences were centered on the theme of making better use of the pamphlets by listening to our investigators and testifying in shorter more powerful messages.  Additionally, using the same teachings with our members to inspire them to invite others to be taught. We received great instruction on more effectively using the key indicators to assist our “seekers” in making and keeping commitments.  Lastly, President reminded us to use the Book of Mormon in everything we do. This includes our morning studies to proclaiming its divinity to members and investigators alike.  We are to “sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out His elect unto the New Jerusalem” (Moses 7:62.)
July also brought a huge transfer as 18 of our beloved missionaries departed for the next stage of their lives and we welcomed 24 new excited and eager faithful sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father.  Again it was a busy day full of love and so many intense emotions.
On Friday, August 14th we had the blessing of having our Area Seventy, Elder Lawrence P. Blunck, instruct us at Mission Leadership Council on how to be more effective missionaries and how to find more people to teach. We were all edified and appreciated his taking a day to be with us.  This training will be carried to the entire mission at our monthly zone meetings.
We’re now into one of our favorite times of the mission with the opportunity to interview every missionary.  The smiles and righteous desires of the missionaries are contagious.  We love them and admire their consecrated service.  We feel so very blessed to be able to share in His work and to serve with them.
We love you!
President & Sister Blatter

Poem Harrison wrote along with two great stories from the MTC

Forgotten Tears

So this is my poem that I wrote in the MTC after a talk by Sheri Dew.  This poem is about my life, but it starts in the pre-earth life and goes through my time on earth and concludes in the future when I go back to live with God.

Forgotten tears fell on my nose as I left my Father pleading “don’t let me go” “I’m not ready to leave you, or say good bye mom”  Why must I go?... Must I go for so long?  I’m not ready for rejection, nor trail, must I do this?  Send someone else, I’m not worthy for this cause.  I’m not perfect like you, I have too many flaws.”

As he touched my cheek and dried my tears, he whispered to me, “There’s nothing to fear.”  “I know your sorrows, your suffering, your pain”  “But trust in me, and from this you shall gain”  “for I am your Savior, and I know all”  “I have chosen you, my child, for this is your call” Don’t worry, I’m here, when you’re all alone, but it’s time my son, it’s time to go.

No answer was given, nothing to feel.  My mind started wondering, was he even real?  My heart turned cold, I knew him not.  My life continued, him no longer in thought.

But he stayed with me, and I didn’t know until later in time, when I was once again low.

It was no longer my peers, no longer their words, it was not their torment, nor taunting, that caused me to yearn.  It was the ones I loved, who held out their hands, who picked me up, when I was unable to stand.

What started out so small, so minut, so innocent, caused my mom and I to fight, her tears, my resentment.  Fights with my mom, became fights with my dad. “I’m leaving, I hate you.  Now I lost what I had.  Now on the streets, all alone, no clothes, no food, no money, no phone.

With nowhere to turn, by myself in the dark, I remembered the words I once felt in my heart.  He touched my cheek and dried my tears; then whispered to me, “There’s nothing to fear” I know your sorrows, your suffering, your pain but I suffered for you.  I’m the one you can blame for I am your savior, and I love you my son.  Have faith in me, and see what you can become.”

Now with tears on my nose, and a packed bag, my parents hugged me tight, just trying to lag “I’m not ready to see you leave said the voice of my mom. “Why must you go?... Must you go for so long? Because I’m ready for pain, I’m ready for anguish, I’m ready for rejection and trail.  I must do this.  I’m ready to go.  I’m ready for this cause, because I know he loves me.  He died for my flaws.

As I wiped my mothers cheeks and dried her tears, I whispered to her, “There is nothing to fear.” “He knows my sorrows, my suffering, my pain.  I know I can trust him, and he loves me the same.  He gave me this love, so that I can share.  This love that he holds, all the sins that he bares.  He wants all his children to come back to him.  To show them his hands, clean them of sin.  I know I’m the one to bring them to Christ, to show them the way, turn the mean to the nice.  But it is not me, I am just a tool without the spirit, I am just a fool for he is our savior and he know all, he gave me this chance, he gave me this call.

Now that I’m done and I’ve served the Lord, my weakness and sorrows became so much more.  I learned that life has it’s ups and downs and no matter what time, you can put your knees to the ground.  He will answer, but give him time.  You know he loves you, don’t ask him why.
Now, my vision fades and my hearing stops, but he’s in my heart, he’s in my thoughts.  It’s hard to walk, I lie in bed, I think of my mother, who is dead.  I miss her voice, I miss her love, but I know she’s happy smiling from above.

With my last shaking breath, I bid my goodbye exhaling once more.  I hear my mother say “Hi”.  I could not tell and did not know, but he never forgot the tears on my nose.

The End
Elder Harrison Chacon, written at the MTC on 8/2/2015

Harrison had a post-it note on the hand written poem that said:

“Share this poem with all who you think should know.  I wrote this and it helped me, but I was directed an prompted to write it and I know it is meant for others to hear.”

Thank you…

Mom & Dad, I love you so much.  I was lost in a world where it was easy to be distracted by many different paths, but no matter what the path that led to you was always the most inticing, loving and warm direction I could have ever have chosen.  Your love and support has gotten me to where I am today.  Thank you mom, for being so good looking and getting dad to fall for you, but thank you so much more for having such a sweet and strong spirit and leading dad to fall for the gospel.  Without that step I would not be here and I would not have the truth in my life.  I want to share two stories… There was a super rich lady who lived in the 1920’s.  This lady had a huge home with a lot of grass.  She needed someone to take care of it so she went a looked for someone.  She wanted someone who looked strong and trustworthy and just a well rounded young man.  Well, she found this boy and told him, “I will give you $2.00 to mow the lawn, just a regular job she added $3.00 for an amazing job $4.00 and for a PERFECT job that is rarely done.  The boy listened with intent.  The old lady continued, I will give you $5.00 if you do a job that is impossible, that has never ben done and is far behond “perfection”.  The boy ran home, excited about his new job.  He looked forward to the task at hand.  The boy arrived the following day at the lady’s home and cut the grass.  He then, after finishing, went to the lady’s door and said “I’m done” and she said “ know, I have been watching you, here is $2.00”.  Time continued and the boy wondered what would it take to do a $3.00 job so the next time he went he cut the grass just right and edged the sides and sweeped up.  Once again saying “I’m done, I’ve done a $3.00 job.”  The lady replied “I know, I’ve been watching you work”  Time continued to move forward and so did the thoughts of the boy.  “I wonder what it would take to do a $4.00 job?  He wondered and when he arrived at the house he mowed the lawn, edged, pulled weeds and trimmed the trees, sweeped and after finishing said “I have done a $4.00 job”.  “I know, I’ve been watching you work hard and you did an amazing job”.  After doing this many times he started to questions again, what would it take to do a $5.00 job?  So he asked around and learned techniques and other ways to perfect a yard.  Upon arriving once more to the house, but this time before the sun came up, he started to work and he mowed the lawn and mowed it in different directions to get different patterns, he pulled weeds and trimmed all the trees and bushes.  He arranged the rocks so they were perfect and did all he could and then the sun went down.  He knocked on the door.  “Mamm, I have done a $5.00 job” The lady replied, with tears in her eyes.  I know I have watched you work all day and done everything you can, here is your $5.00, no one has ever done this before and you have made all the difference!”

As missionaries we have a choice, are we going to be a $2.00, $3.00, $4.00 or $5.00 missionary?  I know which missionary I am going to be and I will earn that $5.00 because the Lord and the people I serve deserve the best that I can give.  You have raised a $5.00 missionary and I can’t thank you enough for that.

Another story Harrison sent home with hand written letter 8/2015

A young man at his farewell bor his testimony, he talked about a dream that he had.  In this dream he was in the pre-earth life and he had a best friend, he loved this friend so much.  One day, he got a letter, and it ws a call.  He gave it to his friend to read out loud.  “You have been called to a home of love and comfort and a country of freedoms and wealth.  You will be born in a home where the gospel of Jesus Christ will be lived and taught.  You have been called to the the USA.”  Both of them were super excited and jumped with joy.  Another letter came for his friend and they read it aloud together.  “You have been called to a home full of contention and heartache, a country where you will struggle with life’s basic essentials.  You will not have the gospel.  You have been called to Costa Rica.  The two men were sadden, knowing his friend would not have the gospel and would struggle.  The young man from the USA grew in the gospel and was called to serve a mission to Costa Rica.  One year later his bishop received a double sided piece of paper from that missionary that said “ I FOUND MY FRIEND”!!!

Harrison, went on to write… Mom, dad, Brooke, CJ, Shannon, Brian & Caitlin, I struggle every single day, but it does not matter how I feel.  It does not matter how my body feels after I help someone move and then bike all day while fasting, it does not matter how I feel when I get threatened at a door step.  It does not matter how I feel when I miss my little sister, because I know that people are waiting to hear my voice and my voice is directed through the spirit and if I am worried about myself, then how is the spirit supposed to dwell in me?  I am here to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel, through Faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, repentence, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end.  That is what I am going to do.  I’m going to work hard, then work hard then after that work hard!  I’m a different person now.  I love all of you guys so much.
I’M SO GLAD THEY CALLED ME ON A MISSION!  THE FIELD IS WHITE ALREADY TO HARVEST.

LOVE,

ELDER CHACON

I don't know is you will be online while I write this but just wanted to check. So I have no time to write but I will give you a quick up date and am writing you guys a hand written letter so I can get all the details in( I am writing my poem in that as well because it would take to long to type). I love it here.... the president and his wife are the coolest people ever and remind me a lot of you. They wake board and do real estate and we talk about that a lot. The mission fits me perfect and every one dresses like me and has the same hair style and I don't need to cut my hair so im happy about that. I am in a four some so I have two trainers and another greenie in our tiny crap apartment where we just sleep all together in the like living room. Ill send pictures next week, sorry I forgot my camera in the shack. But ya the greenie is strange and he is sitting next to me so that's all I will say but I love him, his name is Elder Marble. My two trainers have been out for about a year and are really good guys, they are obedient and fun. We have a goal of 15 baptisms this transfer which would be wa-tac history but we can do it and have been fasting. I (through the lord) have put 4 people on date to be baptized, and that is insane but having faith and being directed by the spirit is the key. If you think about it, it is only 15 people and God has prepared them to hear our message. To be honest this is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. We do whats called 5-7 or knocking and every day we knock from 5-7 no matter what. I have been yelled at and cussed out and threatened and it is really hard. I try to laugh at rejection and just keep going but the worst is when we get antied and they are saying things that shakes my testimony. I have been praying about 60 times a day because I am constantly being beat down by the words or the people here. There is some respect that is given by a few people, which makes the day bearable but it is rough. I have so much more respect for you both in regards to the amount of stress that you go through. its hard to plan for a four some and the ward does not care at all about missionary work so its all on us. We have 30 missionaries coming in next transfer and a few of the greenies will have to be trainers which is causing me to have an exsessive amount of stress. I am losing weight and lifting and I feel really good about how I look. I am on bike and car, since we have four people we switch off. I am searving in lacy over first and second ward. I love you guys so much and think about you all the time. Dad our relationship was really good before and new I would miss that, and I miss you a ton, but mom, I know at times we did not get along so well but I think about you in every thought and I am so sorry for the way that I treated you and you deserve so much better and I love you so much. I miss brooke and hope she is doing well. ....I elaborate more in my hand written letter but my poem is about my life and my struggles. but it starts in the pre earth life and ends in the feature. Time is going by fast and I struggle every day but I am happy and think about your letters and to work hard. I have changed more in the past three weeks that I have in my entire life. Think about the difference between when im on my pills and when im off. then take that huge difference and multiply it. My savior is my friend, he is my extra dosage of pills to keep me going, he is my hope, desire, love, protection, inspiration, and constant companion. I have learned so much about the gospel and cant wait to see you again. I invite you to help the missionaries and look for referrals to give. This work is hard but worth it. .....I have this choice, to change (their) lives.   Its what they need, I know your by their side..... I love you guys so much and miss you. I need my blue shorts and grey shorts. 1 Corinthians 11:13

Mom's first letter home

Dear Elder Chacon,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have tried several times to sent you an email, but because your account has not been set up yet, I get rejected. I am sending you an email through Dear Elder.com. Dad is wanting to write also.

Harrison, I have thought about you at least 50 times a day since you left. I have prayed for you and know that you are doing well. I am so proud of you and your willingness to service the Lord. Uncle Rich sent me several picture of you as you entered into the MTC and I couldn't stop crying. You looked so strong and so ready to do "The Work". I sent it to a bunch of my friends and they felt the same. You made a huge impression on each of them and they are praying for your well being also.

We have had a good week at home. I was able to catch up with things that needed to be done around the house. I cleaned up your room a bit more and found sooooo many darli ng pictures of you. I found several school projects that you had done and poems you had written. I allowed myself to enjoy the time and remember all the great times. You were always a fun loving kid that was happy. Dad has struggled with you being gone too! He talks about you more that real estate! It is really rather cute. "Wonder what Harrison is doing now" I wonder how Harrison is adjusting. We have all thought of you and are so proud.

On Friday, Dad and I headed to the San Diego Temple to witness Taylor sander's Wedding. It was a beautiful day. Taylor was very emotional as the sealer sealed them together for eternities. We then went back to the beach house for just a bit, picked up Brooke and headed to the reception. Taylor had 12 groom's men and it was a super fun reception. Bro and Sis Wishart were there and wished you well on your mission too! They knew you would do a great job. All the friends, Eynons, Tanner, Behrens and us, st ayed to help clean up. I was happy we were able to attend. They even did the Hawka.

We spent the night at the beach house and rode bikes to Great Mex in the morning then headed to Huntington Beach to watch the US Open. Shannon, Brian, Brooke, Dad and I had a a good time, then rode back, rested and rode our bikes again to BJ's for dinner. We came into Corona this morning for church. Bro. Ian Hall (Sr) spoke and really did a great job. He and Krista are working on being sealed in the temple. He spoke from the heart and it was very touching. Dad also invited a new couple from our ward to dinner. They were super friendly and easy to talk with. CJ was officially called to be a seminary teacher and has been teamed up with Brian Knoll. I know they were be a great team!

Brooke is doing well, but I think she misses you. It is really quiet around here. She made a quick video of the two of you as a tribute to you and it was DARLING ! I posted it on my facebook and soooo many people commented about how cute it was. She had about 30 pictures of the two of you together and all the fun times. She loves you too!

Thank you for making your last several weeks so special. I will forever treasure the experiences in the temple with you. You are growing up so fast and I am proud of what I see.

Harrison, you are in our daily prayers and we think of you so much! We can hardly wait to hear from you and really hope you received this letter. Please make sure your email is set up so we can correspond with you. Also, someone told dad that missionaries can call from the SLC airport, on their way to Seattle airport and talk. IF SO... WE WOULD LOVE TO BE TOGETHER, SO WE COULD BOTH TALK WITH YOU. PLEASE SET UP YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT AND LET US KNOW.

HARRISON, PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN MY CONSTANT PRAYERS. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND CAN HARDLY WAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

PLEASE WRITE WITH DETAILS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I LOVE YOU!

LOVE,

HARRISON’S MISSION LETTER

July 21, 2015
Harrison, we had a great day so far today. Watching you perform baptisms for your friends was a great experience for your mom and I. Having you   organize it was also was impressive. It shows the change from selfishness to selflessness. This is a great time for this to happen as you go into the mission field.  Your life as a teenage pre mission high school kid will change dramatically as a missionary as you perform the selfless acts of service during the next two years. I wanted to write you this letter in hopes that you will keep it near to you and refer to it when you need a little pep talk from your dad.
You are about to embark on the MOST DIFFICULT TWO years of your life. Life can have its challenges and you will definitely have some during your mission. Some challenges can be very difficult, like no food to eat, no place to sleep, no money to live on, a loss of a loved one or many other things that people face every day. You most likely will not have these challenges.
Your challenges will be long hard days. These days as we have talked about, will be like two eight hour work days in one. No matter what you are doing, that is a lot of time to be doing it. You are going to put the time in anyway, so what you get out of that time depends on you. Please get the most out of the time you spend on your mission.
Try and focus on the things you can control.
1)     Knowledge of the scriptures: You will have scripture study every morning. How great would it be if you became a scriptorian when you returned home.   You can control what you get out of your scripture study. Start each study period with a prayer to understand what you are about to read and how to use it. The spirit will bring to your remembrance that which you have read when you need it., Just like you AFY experience. You will most likely not have this kind of time to study the scriptures again until you are old and done with raising kids. What a blessing it would be to have the knowledge while you are in the trenches raising your family than at the end of your life. YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR EFFORT IN SCRIPTURE STUDY.
2)     Relationship with Heavenly father and the spirit: The sharp missionaries that report back home, have talked about how much they grew in that area. They relied on the spirit every day to guide and direct them. You will be on the lord errand serving him. He will guide you through if you listen. YOU CAN CONTROL THIS by being clean and pure and having a desire to have the spirit teach you and guide you.  Knowing how to listen to the spirit will help you immensely later in life when you will have lots of distractions around you. During the next two years, you should not have any distractions and so it should be easier to feel the spirit guide and direct you.
3)     Learn to LOVE unconditionally. You already have a great capacity to love. You will now have two years to love the people you serve in Tacoma and the missionaries you serve with. Love the members and they will help you.  Love the investigators and they will feel of your sincere love for them even if they are not ready for your message. Love your fellow missionaries and know that you are on the same team. Have compassion and patience with them. Learn from them and teach them and your mission will be more rewarding. YOU CAN ALSO CONTROL YOUR PURE LOVE OF THE PEOPLE.
4)     Learn to be humble. We all can have trouble with this from time to time. Learn to be humble and teachable. You will make more friends that way. You represent the lord and he wants humble servants to spread his word. It might be hard when challenged sometimes by investigators or members that don’t have your enthusiasm for missionary work, or other missionaries that might be annoying. Be humble and kind and that will get you a long way.
5)     Lean to be disciplined.  Much about the mission is about discipline and habits. A good missionary will have great habits and good discipline. You will have lots of timelines to follow, lots of reporting back and lots of rules. Learning how to cope with this will make you that much better to enter into the real world when your two years is up. I am looking forward to seeing what you have learned regarding this, being put into action.
As you can see, there is lots that you can control in your mission. You can have a plan to succeed in all these areas and your mission will have been a great success. There are things that you can’t control as well.
Some of the things you can’t control
1)     Baptisms: every mission is different and you should not measure the success of your mission but baptisms. What the lord wants of you is to work hard and deliver his message in a Christ like humble manner. As long as you do that, you have done your job. There will be some that are prepared and ready to receive your message. That will be fun for you. Most will not be. The rejection will not be fun. Learning how to deal with rejection will be your challenge. In sales it might be said that you need to get 9 rejections before you get someone willing to listen to you. Out of the 1 willing to listen to you, it might take 1 out of those 10 to progress in the discussions. That is 1 out of a hundred that you speak to. I don’t think those numbers are accurate, but you get the picture. You are looking for that ONE who will listen. If you look at all the no’s as steps towards the yes, then it might be easier to handle the rejections. Rejection is part of the plan.
2)     Companions: you can’t really control your companions. There will some great ones and some not so great ones. Remember you are all there to spread the word of the lord. Some will be more dedicated than others. Some will know the gospel better than others, some will dress better than others, some will not have any social skills or even worse horrible social skills. You cannot control that. Think of this as opportunities to learn how to work with many types of people. I can see you being really great at this if you have the proper attitude. Help those with weaknesses that are your strength’s and learn from those that have strengths that are your weaknesses.  Living with companions will be some of the best training you will get on working with people. You will not have a choice of who your companion is. When you are in high school, you choose your friends. This will not be the case.BE A GREAT COMPANION and people will be excited to be paired up with you.
3)     Leadership: you cannot control who your senior companion or district leaders or even zone leaders are. Respect the position and humbly take direction from them. If you get called to a position of leadership, be a humble leader. Lead with love. Learning leadership skills will carry with you the rest of your life.
I could go on and on and probably will during my weekly emails. I want you to know how proud I am of you and how much I love you. You have GREAT potential and I have always seen that in you. The couple of weeks we have had lots of joy seeing you transform into a missionary. You know what to do and now is your chance to prove it to yourself and to our father in heaven. DON’T give up. It is going to be hard. That is what is going to shape you as a person. Know that I believe in you probably more than you believe in you. I have seen a huge turn around since you were 15 and I am well pleased. Use this time to make the same progress as you have the last three years and you will be off the charts.
I am going to miss you very much. You have been more than just a son to me. We have shared lots of fun times together at the dunes, lake ,beach and sports. We have also share the love of real estate which has been fun for me as well. We have also gone through some rough patches also. Because of this , I know your potential. LIVE UP TO YOUR POTENTIAL
I look forward to seeing you in two years tired and worn out. With holes in your shoes from traveling and holes in your knees from praying.. Imagine your reporting back in two years and all of the great experiences and lessons your will have learned , and then make them happen. Keep a good journal. Write every day. I want to get an email each week letting me know how you are doing. Write good letters, remember that your letters will teach people here at home. They can be of great influence to many people
You can send  a family email for all to see, but if you are struggling (which you will ) and want to send one privately , please do..
I will be thinking of you EVERY DAY.
I love you very very much.
Wear yourself out in the service of the lord. I can’t wait to see you again.
